 BOGUE CHITTO BLUES

Bogue Chitto Mississippi 1950, Otis Wallace was nearing retirement from picking cotton as I was starting. The rich Delta Blues flowed through his toiling hands and I tried to work within his range for inspiration. "Jump down, turn around, pick a bail of cotton." still echoes through my mind on partially hot days. A lot can be learned on the farm if you pay attention to the right teachers. Music and art are closely related and both are over commercialized now, but like the legendary Robert Johnson, Otis sang from his heart, and raw emotion is rare now days. A music executive in Los Angeles sent me Robert Johnson's two volume CD with a comment that "it sounded like someone sitting out in the middle of a cotton field" I even thought he might have meant it as a compliment. I think Otis would be pleased.
